What We Support

Better Educational Opportunities for Worcester Children

Educational Scholarships

High School Scholarships: The LFF Provides five $1,000 scholarships at each year’s spring graduation for high-achieving 8th graders who will be attending private tuition-based high schools in that coming fall.

Higher Ed: We have partnered with the highly respected Greater Worcester Community Foundation which selects former LFCPS graduates and distributes funds we raise to the higher education organization of choice.

Promising Teachers: Learning First believes strongly in growing from within and providing opportunities to Instructional Assistants (IAs) who are seeing their initial teaching license through an undergraduate program. LFF awards up to 3 Employee Scholarships annually to committed individuals who wish to become teachers at Learning First.

The Children (Annual Fund)

Throughout the year, SHCPS works to provide a variety of educational opportunities for students outside of the daily classroom learning. Because many of our families would be unable to afford such activities, the LFF Annual Fund allows us to provide the financial aid necessary for their children to participate.

Examples of such opportunities include field trips to  Nature’s Classroom at the Sargent Center or Cape Cod Sea Camps, concerts at Mechanics Hall through Music Worcester and after-school music, theater, or sports clubs.

By donating to our Annual Fund, YOU are allowing students from struggling families the opportunity to join their classmates for an unforgettable learning experience.

The School

The Learning First Foundation is the non-profit entity that holds the Learning First Charter Public School Building. Unlike traditional public schools, charter schools do not receive capital funding from the state to support facility improvements. As such, the school looks to the foundation to provide funding for all major improvements.

The school, which is currently located at 51 Gage St, is working to move to a new more suitable location at 50 Richland Street (formerly St. Mary’s) in the Vernon Hill section of Worcester for September 2022.

The new property is considered Historic and LFCPS is working to bring the building up to code without taking from the building’s history, character, and charm. Along with ensuring ADA accessibility, LFCPS is also installing a new HVAC system to help protect students and staff from viruses like COVID-19.

The total project, worth approximately $22,000,000 is funded primarily through tax-exempt bonds, donations, historic tax credits, and cash the school has saved.
